Hallelujah! (Sort of) Judge Walker LIFTS the stay on same-sex marriage in California but not until August 18.

August 12, 2010• bySeattle Gay Scene

Joe.My.God and other sites are reporting that Judge Vaughn Walker has lifted the stay against same-sex marriage in California. This comes after his overturn of Proposition 8 a few days ago. Reportedly, hundreds of couples have been lining up at courthouses all over California in anticipation of this outcome to obtain licenses. Here’s the final stay order from Scibd via Towleroad. CLARIFICATION: The stay isn’t lifted until August 18th which will give time for marriage opponents to file an appeal with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal. So, while this is HOPEFUL news, it’s not a done deal and same-sex couples STILL can’t marry in California. We’ll keep you posted as news comes in.
