A jaw droppingly awesome array of local performers take the stage on Friday, October 22 at The Century Ballroom for “Guys ‘n’ Dolls: A Musical Roulette”, one of the featured attractions of the Heineken City Arts Fest which runs October 20-23. Here’s how the producers describe their show:
Dolls ‘n’ Guys is a night to explore all things musical theatre. Sarah Rudinoff, Nick Garrison, Sara Edwards, and Paula the Swedish Housewife perform and curate the evening, enlisting Seattle’s leading musical theatre performers, indie rock musicians, burlesque dancers, dragerific artists and special guests in a show filled with songs from the show world. They asked these artists: what was your first taste of musical theatre? What role would you never be cast in, but have always wanted to play? What song have you always secretly loved? Discover their answers all in one show.
And, the lineup is truly amazing, a “Who’s Who” of local cabaret, theater, dance, pop music, performance art and drag artistes including:
-Seattle’s drag dance sensation, The Cherdonna and Lou Show
-Performance art emcee and opera showman Jed Dunkerly
-Editor of The Stranger, Christopher Frizzelle
-Dance-theatre troublemakers Stephen Hando & Juliet Waller Pruzan
-Apocalyptic drag legend Jackie Hell
-Poet, MC and provocateur from Canary Sing, Hollis
-New York City’s post-religious gospel goddess Our Lady J
-Musical theatre leading man and blues vocalist Brandon O’Neill
-Alice and Ryan from the eclectic popsters The Pica Beats
-Brad, Satchel and Pigeonhead frontman Shawn Smith
-Evan Mosher & Rob Witmer from “Awesome” and Rick Miller of The Railroad Tycoons make up The Three Amigos
-Seattle lounge scene master Paul West and his daughter, Stranger film editor Lindy West
But, there has been one change in the line-up. Nick Garrison was to be one of the hosts of this event, but in one of those bizarre theatrical clichés, he’s been called upon to replace an ailing actor in Seattle Rep’s production of Edward Albee’s “Three Tall Women” which opens on Thursday, so Mr Garrison will be dashing to the Century Ballroom once the curtain drops at the Rep, to participate in the finale of “Dolls ‘n’ Guys”.
The doors open at 7:30pm and the show starts at 8:30pm. Get your tickets NOW! Not sure how this show couldn’t be amazing with that lineup of talent.
