Comedian Tim Murray Gets Witchy

September 9, 2024• byMichael Strangeways

Gay stand up and song parodist TIM MURRAY is embarking on a national tour and he’s coming to Seattle’s Rabbit Box on September 14th!

EVERYTHING you need to know about Tim and his witchy new show:

Introducing Queerty HERE nominated US comedian Tim Murray, who brings his spooky comedy hour ‘Witches’ back to North America starting this September. The show is a mix of stand up and original comedy songs about his favorite pop culture WITCHES!  Murray is like a gay Bo Burnham, but painted green and doing drag!  Click for tickets HERE

For fans who want to return for more witchy tomfoolery this fall Tim has added a delicious mix of new songs and stand-up you won’t want to miss and you may even witness some very special guests. Last year former (and one current) Elphabas Julia Murney, Eden Espinosa and Lissa DeGuzman popped into the sold-out Joe’s Pub performance.

In ‘Witches’, Murray uses hilarious personal stories about growing up a closeted, yet feminine boy, who tried hard to pass as straight to avoid being burned at the stake. He will have you howling at the moon, cackling at his jokes, and crying (but hopefully not melting).

“The show is a tribute to LGBTQia people and how we discover our magic once we find our coven.  Murray speaks to the many queer people who feel like we have to hide ourselves to fit in and how our powers grow stronger once we find our queer family.  I’m thrilled to bring this updated version of Tim Murray is Witches across the US, UK and Canada! This comedy show is a tribute to witches and queerness. And hot sluts. If you don’t like it then BURN THE WITCH! But be careful… he roasts back.”

From ‘The Craft’ to ‘Wicked’ to the ‘Sanderson Sisters’ to ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ and Angelica Houston’s ‘Grand High Witch,’ Murray celebrates famous sorceresses throughout herstory and uses their stories as a parallel to the queer witch hunt.

His songs include “I Wanna Be Witches” which is about pretending to be superheroes with straight boys growing up but turning all his characters into witches and “I Hate Kids” – where he highlights how he has felt like a 40-year-old-woman since he was 8 years old and has hated children since he was one himself! He also has a song called ‘Dr. Dillamond’s Lament’, in which the forgotten character from the musical Wicked reveals a deep secret in a show-stopping number.

‘Witches’ received raves from critics including 5-star reviews from Entertainment Now, North West End, Broadway Baby, and Broadway World at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2023. Murray took the show on a sold-out tour to 18 cities in the United States and Canada. Witches was nominated for an Off-West End Award for Best Fringe show, Murray was shortlisted for the Comedian’s Choice Award and WON Best Musical Theatre Show of the Fringe from Entertainment Now. In addition, Playbill also named the show a Pick of the Fringe. Recently, Murray won The New York Queer Comedy Festival which is a year-long competition against hundreds of other New York comedians.

As an actor Murray can be seen in the film Swan Song starring Jennifer Coolidge and his new sketch comedy tv show produced by Trixie Mattel and D’Marie Productions is set to make its debut by early 2025. Tim is also all over TikTok with his viral sketch comedy videos, including his popular series “Every Conversation In LA”.

Murray has performed stand-up all over the U.S. including SF Sketchfest, The Brooklyn Comedy Festival and Drag Con and has been a regular on the Bowen Yang & Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas LIVE podcast episodes and his podcast Slumber Party is on iHeart radio.

Tim was part of the original cast of 50 Shades the Musical Off-Broadway (New York Times’ Critics Pick), Voldemort and the Teenage Hogwarts Musical Parody Off-West End, and his new sketch comedy TV show ‘Wish You Were Queer’ produced by Trixie Mattel, co-starring internet sensation Michael Henry will debut in early 2025.
