For their sixth Triple Door appearance, The Kinsey Sicks return for a show like no other: “WAKE THE F@&%! UP AMERICA!”
The Kinsey Sicks—the self-described Dragapella Beauty Shop Quartet—is in the best sense a contemporary vaudeville act: singing, dancing, comedy and costumes. Even the “drag” component is in the tradition.
Founded in 1994 by Ben Schatz and Irwin Keller, their first performance transformed the corner of Market and Castro Streets into an impromptu al fresco theater. They took in $37.
By 2001, The Kinsey Sicks’ phenomenon conquered Off-Broadway at Studio 54 in New York City with their wicked, fall-down funny show “Dragapella”, of which The Washington Post wrote: “It is ‘Rent’ on nitrous oxide.” The production earned a Drama Desk nomination for Best Lyrics and a Lucille Lortel nomination for Best Musical of 2001.
The Kinsey Sicks on The Triple Door Mainstage will be classic theatrical entertainment in a long-standing tradition. Note, however, that this show is not for folks who always button the top button. As the San Francisco Chronicle describes it, a Kinsey Sicks performance is: “Gloriously, proudly bad taste…gut-busting parodies and raucous shtick.” We can’t wait.
This show is R-Rated and adult. It is not for the faint-hearted. Although we think it’s the funniest show since forever, their act may offend some of the thinner skinned folk out there.
The Kinsey Sicks perform Saturday July 12, 2008 at The Triple Door: 7:30 pm & 10 pm (21+). $30 in advance / $35 day of show.
