Senior Director of Development, Michael Ruff, as well as National Board Member Mike Schaefer from GLAAD (The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) will be in Seattle for a special fundraising cruise aboard a ship called the Lady Mary. Enjoy hosted cocktails, gourmet hors d’oeuvres, great entertainment and, of course, an update on GLAAD’s culture-changing work and accomplishments. Did I mention hosted cocktails? Yes it did…wine, beer, and select spirits.
Anyways, GLAAD does a wonderful job encouraging the media to stop calling us “homosexuals” and “trannys”. They formed in New York in 1985 to protest the New York Post’s grossly defamatory and sensationalized AIDS coverage, GLAAD’s work quickly spread to Los Angeles, where they began to educate Hollywood’s entertainment industry on the importance of more accurate and realistic portrayals on the screen.
Unfortunately, sometimes we use some of the “Defamatory Language” that GLAAD asks the media not to use (not that often) but hopefully they love us anyway.
Get your tickets now for the GLAAD Cruise on September 3rd, because they are $25 more on the day of the event!
UPDATE: I erroneously mentioned earlier that the GLAAD President will be in attendance but he was already booked for other events that week and is unable to make it to Seattle.
