Those Hobbitses Are Taking Over Our Precious SIFF Cinema Downtown Next Month

January 8, 2024• byMichael Strangeways

Damn their hairy feet!

Those ghastly hobbitses are taking over SIFF Cinema Downtown, aka “The Former Cinerama” for two week series of marathon screenings of both the original The Lord of the Rings films AND the not as good and totally didn’t need to be divided into three films, The Hobbit Trilogy. It’s all happening from February 2nd through the 15th with a LOTR marathon day on February 3rd.

For uber Tolkien nerds, it’s an orgy of excess to be wallowed in like hogs in a mud holler but a mud holler with divine mid century modern cinema design and chocolate covered pop corn.

I guess it also means that SIFF isn’t expecting the Mean Girls musical film to be much of a hit…it opens the 12th of January and the Hobbit Fest begins in early February so….if you really need to see a Mean Girls musical remake on the big screen, ya better do so quickly.

More poo:

Experience the enchanting world of Middle-earth like never before at the iconic SIFF Cinema Downtown. From the legendary battles of Helm’s Deep to Bilbo Baggins’ unexpected adventure, SIFF promises a cinematic journey through the heart of Tolkien’s literary legacy. Join fellow fans in celebrating the magic, heroism, and camaraderie that have captivated audiences for generations—movie-goers are encouraged to dress up!

Get ready to rediscover the power of the One Ring and the courage of hobbits on the big screen in this unforgettable cinematic event at SIFF Cinema Downtown. And don’t forget about second breakfast!

Saturday, February 3 is LOTR Marathon Day! Showtimes at 9:00am (The Fellowship of the Ring), 2:30pm (The Two Towers), and 8:00pm (The Return of the King).

But, not necessarily in that order.
