If you have not discovered the Galactic Boutique on Pine St. (it’s like where have you been) then you are in for a treat. Its both a really cool unique store and an art gallery. With the inspiration of simple shapes, bright colors and a little sense of humor, owner Karl Fjellstrom is an artist who wouldn’t settle for the bleak beige future that modern design was offering.
In 2006 he created a destination on Capitol Hill for outfitting both your home’s interior and yourself from retro-kitcsh and spaceship chic all the way to global exotica. What I find amazing is it is all so affordable as well. He scours the globe to bring unique home accessories and fashion from local and international independent artists and designers. The featured artists on display are rotated monthly. The store has become a huge hit from the very start and if you are even slightly artistically inclined you probably have already been in or know about the store.
On Saturday February 16 Galactic Boutique will be hosting their party “Get Your Heart On: A Sexy Party for Lovers and Single Super Freaks” from 6 to 9 pm.
Customers will be treated to a wide variety of amenities such as delicious chocolates, champagne, prizes and giveaways, massage and aromatherapy demos by Darcey Pickard of StarJuice and Joshua Kassner, and even a group art show curated by owner Karl Fjellström, featuring new works by local artists such as Andrea Heimer, David Bloomfield, and Eric Osborne.
Galactic Boutique is located at 1213 Pine Street with store hours Tuesday through Thursday, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Mondays by appointment.
