Once again gays are attacked and beaten on Capitol Hill

February 4, 2008• bySeattle Gay Scene

Not even 48 hours after the King County Prosecutor’s office announced their program to put up posters and distribute paper cards in order to combat anti-gay violence yet another attack happened on Friday night.

KIRO has the story here.

“He took the cane out of my hand and started hitting me with it on my face and head. I have a lump on the back of my head,” said Crelia.
The attackers then fled. Witnesses were able to give police the car’s license plate number.
Police have not yet labeled the attack as a hate crime, but the victims said the attackers shouted gay slurs at them as they were beaten.
The men suffered cuts and broken bones.
No arrests have been made in the case.

The Seattle PI is saying that one of the victims yelled at the car to slow down and that “No description of the car was provided.”

The Stranger SLOG posted here along with a lively discussion.

UPDATE: Posted on The Stranger’s SLOG:

My friends got the plate number and the police said the registration matched the description of the car, so we know it is a good plate number. The police responded within a couple minutes of being called, took our statements, and advised that they had a unit waiting at the address to which the vehicle was registered.

Seattle Times leaves out allegations of gay bashing by the victims.

When King 5 News debriefed this incident, they stated that the two men on the street started yelling at the driver of the car to slow down before the men jumped out of the car.
I think we all just need to be careful about who we antagonize, and when. While I do not condone the violence that has been occuring, we all need to be aware that there are some angry people in the world who are just looking for an excuse and a chance to react.
