Aurélia’s Oratorio – A dazzling display of stage illusion

Aurélia’s Oratorio is a dazzling display of stage illusion, physical theater, and circus acrobatics conceived.

Aurélia’s Oratorio is inspired by European circuses and medieval drawings depicting upside-down and inside-out worlds. Nothing is as it seems as the impossible happens. Ice cream appears burning-hot, clothes are hung out to be watered, furniture has a mind of its own, trains go through people and, at times, the puppets are in charge. A riveting combination of physical theater, comedy, magic and dance – all set to a quirky soundtrack of accordions, chamber music, and gypsy jazz created especially for the performance by the Tiger Lillies.

Aurélia Thierrée has performed as an actress and illusionist since her early childhood, initially with her parents Victoria Chaplin (Charlie Chaplin’s daughter) and French movie star Jean-Baptiste Thierrée. Most recently she performed with the Tiger Lillies of Shockheaded Peter fame. Performing with Ms. Thierrée is Jaime Martinez, associate artistic director, dancer and founding member of The Parsons Dance Company. Mr. Martinez staged the stunning 2007 performance of “Caught” at Pacific Northwest Ballet.

Shows are Wednesday, May 7th through Sunday, May 11th.

Tickets start at just $10 (ages 25 and under and 65 and over) up to only $35 and are available now through the Seattle Repertory Theatre box office or online at www.seattlerep.org.
