So I have been wondering for months about the plans for the beer garden for Seattle PrideFest at the Seattle Center. Here in Washington State we have such archaic liquor laws compared to the rest of the regular free world. Something so simple as a beer garden during the Pride Festival invokes such happy feelings in me that I cannot even describe it. Gays in just about every other city would think such thoughts are silly, since having a beer garden at Pride is simply taken for granted everywhere else.
In general, bars are so segregated by age, music, people, attitude, clothing, etc. So it is something special to be able to drink with thousands of others who share only one thing in common – they are gay or lesbian and their friends. PrideFest brings together so many different types of people in what will be a massive eclectic party, and now with a beer garden, that Seattle only recently has had the benefit to enjoy.
Last year everyone remembers that while the beer garden was fairly large, it was very crowded and they actually started to run of the beer. This year there will be TWO beer gardens.
Part of the mystery has been what beer would be served. Redhook is now the sponsor of Seattle PrideFest. Nice to have a local Woodinville brewery showing its support for the community.
The wonderful thing about the Seattle Center is it is big enough to provide plenty of space for family entertainment and yet still comfortably host 2 beers gardens at the same time. The International Fountain is included again this year (it was sadly missed last year after an amazing 2006 PrideFest in the Fountain) complete with its own DJ stage featuring some big name local talent DJ Kyler, LA Kendall, DJ Rob Hall, and Mathematix.
So welcome Redhook! The anticipation for this year’s PrideFest at the Seattle Center is huge so let’s hope for good weather.
