Police estimate the crowd to be 6,000 but anyone that was there will tell you it was way bigger than that. The march from Capitol Hill stretched for 14 blocks and once it reached Westlake Center you could not even get within blocks of the rally. When Seattle won the WNBA title they estimated the crowd at Westlake Center at 14,000 and there were far more people for this event.
But anyway…the police seem to have their reasons for underestimating the crowds. Maybe it discourages organizing future protests or something. The Stranger has some good photos that give you a pretty good idea about the crowd. Overall, local media coverage was pretty pathetic with only one picking up on the fact that this was a National Protest. The Seattle PI mentioned that “Similar demonstrations took place in Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Washington, D.C. and many other cities.” Yeah, actually in over 300 cities.
