The big, brawling rollicking musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is set in the Pacific Northwest in 1850 before Washington even became its own territory. The musical, of course, is based on the Academy Award-Winning 1954 MGM film by Stanley Donen, which is a timeless classic. Now the musical returns to The 5th Avenue stage for the first time in more than 25 years starting on December 3rd.
In this “rip-roarin’” musical comedy seven lonely lumberjacks meet seven lonely maidens. Adam is a young man living in a backwoods cabin with his six brothers before he meets and quickly marries Milly. And does she ever whip those rough ‘n tumble boys into shape. The choreography is going to be totally athletic in this production (even more than the film, if you can believe that!) and is full of energetic jumping – it’s as if a lumberjack pin-up calendar came to life!
Also, it’s an all female creative team, including Allison Narver as director, Patti Colombo as choreographer, and Valerie Gebert as music director and all three have bravely banded together to take on this testosterone-filled musical.
So if your holiday list includes seven shirtless manly men who become mannerly then this is probably the show for you. Performances for Seven Brides for Seven Brothers run December 3rd – 28th, 2008 and tickets are priced from $22 – $81. Visit www.5thavenue.org for more info and remember that there is no service charge when purchasing tickets in person at The 5th Avenue Theatre Box Office.
