The big rumor all over the Internet yesterday was that Gregoire was going to be appointed as Obama’s Commerce Secretary and Democrat Brad Owen would take over as the Governor of Washington State! Brad Owen, from the City of Shelton, has spent most of his political career in the legislature opposing gay rights.
He was elected statewide to Lieutenant Governor in 1996 and has held the seat ever since despite challenges in the primary from other Democrats and Marcia McCraw, the Republican challenger this last November who was pro-choice and supported both legalizing pot and gay marriage.
The Stranger called Brad Owen less qualified to be lieutenant governor than an empty bag of chips, a crusty come sock, a one-eyed dog, and a man without a website.
Brad Owen would have taken over as Governor until a special election in November but it looks like all these speculations and rumors were completely false. Christine Gregoire is actually in Iraq visiting local National Guard troops.
