Preview: The Seafarer at Seattle Repertory Theatre
Conor McPherson’s recent Broadway hit The Seafarer comes to Seattle Repertory Theatre from February 26 to March 28, 2009.
Set in a forgotten corner of Northern Dublin, the play centers on four old friends as they gather to face the holidays the only way they know how—with a bottle of whiskey and a deck of cards. But when a mysterious stranger arrives and wants a piece of the action, the men find themselves playing a game with devilishly high stakes. Steeped in Irish myth, the play is both darkly funny and surprisingly uplifting.
The Wall Street Journal dubbed the Broadway production as the “Best New Play of the Year.”
Five drunk Irish guys. Where else would you find them but…Seattle?
“We didn’t necessarily set out to cast the project all locally, but when Wilson [Milam, the director] came to town, being a Seattle native, he was especially interested in our Seattle actors,” said Seattle Rep Casting and Literary Associate Erin Kraft. “We found, as more and more pieces fell into place, that because of the true ensemble nature of the piece there were huge benefits to having an all-local cast.”
Performances of The Seafarer run February 26 – March 28, 2009. There will be a special St. Patrick’s Day performance March 17 with an after-show party. Tickets to The Seafarer range from $15-$59 and anyone 25 and under may purchase tickets for only $10 for any performance.
