The newly developing Capitol Hill Pride Festival has chosen Mark ‘Mom’ Finley to lead it and the Capitol Hill Seattle blog is calling him a “lightning rod for controversy” over his past performance at Seattle’s Pride Parade. Mark ‘Mom’ Finley will lead the committee to organize the festival that will meet every Sunday at 7pm, except Mother’s Day of course, until the event.
The Capitol Hill Pride Festival was created this year through the Capitol Hill Community Council and spearheaded by Charlette LeFevre, who has been one of the most vocal opponents of Seattle Pride’s move to downtown. She told The Seattle Weekly in an article back in 2005, “The pride march has been stolen. It’s been quietly stolen.”
So for 2009, The Capitol Hill Pride Festival and Seattle Pride in downtown will be held on two different days allowing all of us to enjoy both events and spreading the celebrations throughout the city, including the Capitol Hill neighborhood. The Capitol Hill Pride Festival on Broadway Ave is scheduled for Saturday June 27th with family friendly events from 11am – 4pm, while Seattle Pride Parade and Seattle PrideFest will happen the following day, on Sunday June 28th, starting at 11am along 4th Avenue and at the Seattle Center.
