Out.com released “The 60 Greatest Gay Bars in the World” and it includes some unique and interesting selections from around the world. The choices are less centered on the cookie-cutter mega-clubs and more about the ones which “offer the most bang for your buck”, “delectable” bartenders or the “raunchiest burlesque.”
Re-Bar, 1114 Howell St., makes the list here.
Off the beaten path in the Belltown neighborhood, Re-Bar is full of surprises. Patrons compete in spelling bees, bingo, and video game tournaments, but the biggest events take place on Re-Bar’s stage. With offerings ranging from comedy and Shakespeare to drag shows and a cappella performances, it’s like being in college on speed. On Saturday night DJs playing pop and hip-hop are the major draw.
Along with monthly events such as BaconStrip every first Saturday, Cherry every fourth Saturday and Magnum Men every fifth Saturday, Re-bar offers Happy Hour every weekday from 5pm – 8pm featuring $1 PBR pints. They have also hosted the gay-friendly house music night “Flammable!” every Sunday at 10pm for over a decade and now offer a T-Dance every last Sunday of the month from 4pm – 9pm with DJ Dana Dub, who is from the original Timberline T Dance.
