With Seattle Eagle’s packed debuted of their all new Friday night Fringe theme, The Stranger’s Party Crasher Matt Hickey paid a visit and posted some images here.
Opinion in the comments seem to be mixed with how people feel about the change in format and image for The Eagle. Personally I find it sad that the Eagle’s longtime image is changing but understand it may be necessary for the success of the bar plus a lot of people seem to be very happy about the new Fringe Night.
One comment on Matt Hickey’s posting by Unpaid Commenter stands out for me:
I’ll be the first to admit that I mourn the passing of the old Eagle… Maybe I didn’t ever quite fit in, but it was always fun to visit- what with the discreet location, plethora of leather attire, and abundance of dark corners and red lighting for the seedy sexual escapades one could witness there any night of the week. I especially loved it because it was a gay bar that really only ever had gays in it… something about about it was always scared away the straights.
But that version of the Eagle has been dead for well over a year. After the constant harassment from police, and the closure of the strip of Pine bars that included the Bus Stop and Cha Cha/Pony, The Eagle was suddenly stranded away from most other gay bars with no outstanding features to justify going. It was truly sad to walk in there and be one of two people in the joint- so I’m happy they’ve found a nitch, and had the balls to run with it. It’s infinitely better than watching the place die.
Fringe returns to The Eagle this Friday with their “Medical Party” and the first 100 people in the door get a handmade glittery surgical mask. Oh Eagle, how you’ve changed. Party details are here.
We will try to understand the changes The Eagle is doing this time. What is more important is that they're back and trying to build again the loosing one.
