Alabaster is a queer friendly band transplanted from Chicago to Seattle and has spent the last five years touring vigorously and playing such festivals as Bumbershoot, Warped Tour, CMJ, and NAMM. Their specialty: slammin’ drums, gritty pop rhythms, searing guitars, and female songbirds with an edge that fully complement each other through harmony, and melody.
Dubbed: “The Fleetwood Mac of Punk Rock” this female fronted quintet is accompanied by heart wrenching lyrics reminiscent of pages ripped from an abandoned diary, and bring a refreshing sound to the arena of Pop Punk Music. They will leave your toes tapping, and cause you to hum along with the melodies of these blind-sidingly catchy tunes reminiscent of Hey Monday, Paramore, Bayside, and In This Moment.
Hooker Farm is an 80’s party in your pants, a constant flaming montage parity, and is offensive in all the right ways by taking songs from Grease, Top Gun, every John Cusack movie, and changing the lyrics around, adding in audience members and choreographed dances. The Seattle Weekly had the this little tidbit about Hooker Farm last year.
The night also features two other great bands that pride themselves on being queer friendly: Atomic Bride and Noddy. This Saturday concert event is at The Comet Tavern, and they rarely get mentioned by us. If you like your music live and hard this may be the event for you. The band is asking audience members to wear their favorite slutty 80’s outfit or cowboy hat to the event.
Alabaster, Hooker Farm, Atomic Bride and Noddy perform at The Comet Tavern (21+) on Saturday January 30, 2010 from 9pm-12am, $7 cover. The Facebook event can be found here.
