In what will surely rock the international fashion world, fashion designer Alexander McQueen was found dead in London from an apparent suicide according to reports. He was just 40-years-old and the youngest designer to achieve the title “British Designer of the Year.” He has a host of other amazing accomplishments including head designer in his twenties at Givenchy from 1996-2001 and later picked up by the Gucci Group in 2000. His mother had just passed away one week ago on February 2, 2010.
Alexander McQueen is known for both the emotional power and raw energy of the shows as well as the romantic but determinedly contemporary nature of the collections. Integral to the McQueen culture is the juxtaposition between contrasting elements: fragility and strength, tradition and modernity and fluidity and severity. An openly emotional and even passionate viewpoint is realised with a profound respect and influence for the arts and crafts tradition.
His first fashion sketch was created at age three and he began his career at age sixteen. I would consider him literally the hottest designer in the world right now. He even formed a “unexpected and unique” partnership to design a line of Puma footwear in 2005 and with Samsonite in 2007 to design “cutting edge luxury travel” products. His fashion was seen on many celebrities such as Rihanna and Lady GaGa.
