Dance The Night Away: Queer Milonga at Oddfellows and Mark Morris Dance Group at The Paramount!

March 25, 2010• byMichael Strangeways

Jill S. sent me an invite to this: Queer Milonga, a night of Classic and Nuevo Tango dedicated to the Queer Community and Allies which kicks off its inaugural night on Saturday, April 10th at 8pm in the West Hall across from Century Ballroom upstairs in the Oddfellows Building on Capitol Hill. Beginner’s lessons begin at 8pm with instructors Michelle Badion and Alison Cockrill followed by the dance at 9pm. It’s $15 for the lesson and dance and only $7 for the dance itself. And, dressing up is highly encouraged. Future Milongas are planned for May 1st, June 12th and August 24th. I found this very sessy image of two hot men doing the tango but I have a sneaky suspicion that this is going to be more popular with the ladies than with the gents, but here’s hoping for some man on man tango love! Acclaimed dance icon Mark Morris returns to Seattle in May for a weekend of shows at The Paramount startin on Friday, May 21st. This is the third annual collaboration of the Mark Morris Dance Group with the Seattle Symphony and this outing will feature a Baroque music program including Haydn’s Horn Concerto No. 2 in D Major, A Lake as well as Bach’s Jesu, Meine Freude and Vivaldi’s Gloria which will be guest conducted by Seattle native, Mark Morris himself. For tickets and more info, go to the STG website.

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
