Life is a Cabaret…and a Circus…and a Vaudeville/Burlesque Show: Moisture Festival Returns to Seattle in Multiple Venues!

March 9, 2010• byMichael Strangeways

It’s back….Seattle’s beloved Moisture Festival, delighting audiences for the last seven years and relieving the dreary dulldrums of late winter/early spring returns for a month long series of performances in multiple locations across the metro area on March 11th. The festival begins at ACT in the beautiful Falls Theatre with a combination of family friendly varietè shows on March 11th and 14th and adult oriented burlesque shows sandwiched between on the 12th and 13th. Both shows are equally entertaining; I was lucky enough to see a version of Moisture Festival four years ago at the Hale’s Brewery employee Christmas party (I was a guest of a performer and not a Hale’s employee) and the “family friendly” show is very jaded adult friendly. I’m not a huge fan of the circus (yet, I love movies about the circus…go figure!) and I was thoroughly entertained by that all-ages version of Moisture Fest. There are a huge variety of performers: clowns, acrobats, aerolistas, comedians, dancers, magicians, and acts that are difficult to describe. The relatively low prices, make it a great entertainment bargain and the large number of venues make getting to the festival even easier for people living all over the Puget Sound area. As I mentioned, the festival opens at ACT for opening weekend before moving to its traditional home at Hale’s Palladium which is located inside the Hale’s Brewery at 4301 Leary Way SW (the odd area that’s not quite Fremont and not quite Ballard) for the rest of the run with a return to ACT for the final weekend of burlesque shows. In addition, the Festival will also offer mini-runs at other locations including three shows on Vashon Island at Open Space; two shows at the Georgetown Ballroom in Georgetown and a series of events in collaboration with the Seattle International Film Festival at the SIFF Cinema at Seattle Center. Check the website for exact schedules and further information and tickets. Some of the many performers scheduled during the course of the festival, (not all performers appear in every performance; again, check the schedule to verify!): The Aerolistas, The Bellini Twins, Godfrey Daniels, Kevin Joyce, Tamara the Trapeze Lady, Trixie Little & the Evil Hate Monkey, Heavenly Spies, Manuela Horn, Miss Indigo Blue, Sydni Deveraux, Waxie Moon, Zebra Kings…the list goes on and on. You would be foolish to miss a night of clean and/or naughty fun with these barely dressed and nubiley talented carnies and thespians. Check it out.

A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
