One of the hottest events in San Fran, and around the world, is coming to Seattle’s very own Capitol Hill on Friday June 4, 2010.
Launched in 2003 in San Francisco, Bootie was the first club night in the U.S. dedicated solely to the burgeoning artform of the bootleg mashup — and is now the biggest mashup event in the world. Mixing and matching every musical genre, era, and style into one big dance party where everyone feels welcome.
Bootie’s DJs (and SF house band Smash-Up Derby) keep your brain guessing and body dancing with creative song combinations, celebrating — and satirizing — the many different forms of music. Bootie also presents the infamous Midnight Mashup Show, featuring drag and burlesque performers as well as singers. Bootie showcases the best mashup productions from around the world … because one song at a time just isn’t enough!
A bootleg is a song that’s “mashed-up” with the vocal track of one song mixed over the instrumentation of another. Different artists from different genres are combined together to create new and unique songs. Since 99% of all mashups are not legally cleared by the artists these “mashup” events are one of the only ways to experience this music.
You will find official Bootie parties everywhere from Los Angeles to New York, Berlin to Brisbane, London to Vienna, Hong Kong to Helsinki, Paris to Singapore and all over the globe.
While the event typically attracts a mixed straight and gay crowd, the DJs for this Seattle event spotlight four DJs, two gays and two queers. From San Francisco, Bootie creators and DJs, the infamous Adrian and Mysterious D. spinning the best mashups from around the globe. Also appearing at Bootie Seattle is Freddy King of Pants (Purr, Eagle and Rebar’s mashup night FrankenBoot) and DJ BoyShapedBox (Barracuda, SF and Seattle). At midnight there will be a mashup drag show starring Renttecca of Trannyshack fame.
