Glee Flash Mob: Still On for Saturday at Cal Anderson Park and Downtown

April 9, 2010• byMichael Strangeways

In case you haven’t heard, One Degree Events, the folks who put on the Pride Fest at Seattle Center, also are the masterminds behind Flash Mob Seattle and they’re up to their tricks this weekend with a Glee themed mob set to start at 10am at various locations in the city but originating from Cal Anderson Park. It’s not too late to be a part of the mob; they’ve already had a couple of rehearsals but if you go to their Facebook page you can download instructional videos and they’re rehearsing TONIGHT (Friday, April 9) at Century Ballroom on Capitol Hill AND they’ll be rehearsing at Cal Anderson before heading off to the secret locations (at least three are in downtown Seattle) at 10am tomorrow (Saturday, April 10) morning. But, it’s ok if you just want to watch as well…And, if it doesn’t work out for you to participate this time, they’re planning on repeating this Glee themed mob for Gay Pride in June…Oh, and the four songs they are doing are: Don’t Stop Believing (duh), Proud Mary, Gold Digger and Somebody to Love. As for Glee itself, it returns with all new episodes on Tuesday, April 13 at the COMPLETELY STUPID time of 9:28pm, right after American Idol (and up against Lost, which is INFURIATING as I like both shows). Finally, despite some reports on Capitol Hill Blog and various other sites, the Mob is NOT CANCELLED!!! The organizers are assuring everyone that the Mob is still on, and will not be cancelled if the weather is bad. So strap on your dance belt and get ready to boogie to the beat of your favorite show choir tomorrow morning.

Writer’s Note: Michael Strangeways was in show choir (also known as “swing choir”) in high school (duh, I’m gay!) which is what we called “glee club” in our part of the world. (We had a glee club, but it was a cheerleader/pep squad thing). As far as I know, there aren’t any PHOTOS of me in my FABULOUS show choir outfit which consisted of grey poly slacks, a grey “silk-style” shirt and a maroon, crushed “velvet” vest…it was dreamy in a Vegas lounge act sort of way. I also had a Brady Bunch ‘fro which ended up more Jew ‘fro than Brady ‘fro which is hard to pull off in a small Nebraska town. As for our songs, the only one I remember doing is “Birdland” by Manhattan Transfer. I’ll never be able to completely erase that song from my head, and I’ve been trying for 25, 15, 10, 5 whole years!!!

In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
