I feel guilty about not posting anything about this production prior to today; they’ve been open since April 2, but it slipped under my radar. Today, I discovered that someone I know from SIFF, the divine Aiden Karamanyan is involved in this production so I feel compelled to mention it. And, if you’re unaware of The Vagina Monologues, I’m guessing you’ve been living under a rock because the 10 year old play has become a theatrical institution, usually around Valentine’s Day and has been performed thousands upon thousands of times by theatre companies all over the world. Eve Ensler’s series of monologues, all devoted to the “celebration of female sexuality in all its complexity and mysteries” is always evolving and changing as Ms Ensler adds new stories to the text and Stone Soup’s new production includes new pieces dealing with Native American culture, the Comfort Women of 1940’s Japan and pieces featuring transgender characters and testimony. Even if you’ve seen it before or read the best-selling book, you’ve never experience this latest version of “The Monologues”.
The Vagina Monologues runs Thurs-Sat at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm, now through April 25 at Stone Soup Theatre, 4029 Stone Way North (that area that’s not quite Wallingford and not quite Fremont). Check it out….and for you gay men that aren’t a big fan of the “V”, I just need to remind you that the one thing ALL humans have in common, is that we’ve ALL been in a vagina…and, even the Caesarian born have spent 9 months of their lives living next door to one…so, a toast to the Vagina!
