Music City News: Vampire Weekend Tickets on sale NOW!

May 21, 2010• byMichael Strangeways

The incredibly cute and timely named band, Vampire Weekend is coming to town, (well, not our town, but Redmond; close enough) for a show at Marymoor Park on August 29 at 6pm with opening acts Beach House and Dum Dum Girls. Tickets went on sale today at TicketBastard…these guys are so popular, that this will probably sell out so if you’re a fan, then you’d better get your tickets NOW!

I’d only vaguely heard of them, and only because of their catchy name, (even if you’re not a fan of their bouncy, alty pop music, you have to admire them for picking a name that latches onto the whole “anything related to vampires is hot right now” bandwagon…) I checked them out on YouTube and I liked them…not enough to immediately start downloading their music or to want to go to a show that will be largely populated by tweens, teens, twenteens and their parents but enough to listen to more than one of their songs…also, their cute keyboardist, Rostam Batmanglij recently came out publicly. He did interviews with Out magazine and Towleroad. Check him and the band out.

OK…I listened to some more of their music and I’m really starting to like these guys A LOT! Despite the fact I’m old enough to be their very young father…

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
