Star Paul Dano to walk the Red Carpet at SIFF Opening Gala, The Extra Man on Thursday, May 20

May 17, 2010• byMichael Strangeways
Also attending, one of the directors, Robert Pulcini and co-star Alicia Goranson, best known as “Becky #1” on Roseanne and as one of the murder victims in Boys Don’t Cry.

SIFF just announced that one of the male leads of The Extra Man, Paul Dano will be in Seattle for the opening gala screening of his film on Thursday, May 20 at Benaroya Hall. The film starts at 7pm but the Red Carpet fun begins at 5:30pm and tickets are still available for the film and after party, priced at $45 for SIFF members/$50 for general public as well as for fancier, and pricier, packages that include preferred seating, the red carpet walk, more opportunities for schmoozing and even valet parking and an open bar. Go to the SIFF website for more details or to purchases tickets or packages.

As for Paul Dano, he is best known for his Independent Spirit Award winning performance in L.I.E, SAG Award winning role in Little Miss Sunshine and most notably, for his co-starring role (in dual roles, yet) in Paul Thomas Anderson’s masterpiece, There Will Be Blood, opposite the Oscar winning Daniel Day Lewis. And, as for Mr Dano’s role in The Extra Man:

The Extra Man stars Dano as the ever-so-proper Louis Ives, a lonely dreamer who imagines himself the protagonist of a modern F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. He moves to Manhattan to pursue a writing career and rents a room in the tiny Manhattan apartment of playwright Henry Harrison, a wildly eccentric social entrepreneur (Kevin Kline) who happens to work evenings as an “extra man”-an escort for wealthy widows. The unexpected bond of the two men creates the hilarious heart of the film; its pathos comes from their realization that within the other’s idealistic fantasy persona lurks their own litany of insecurities.

And, if you see him on the Red Carpet, Mr Dano would appreciate it if you could refrain from quoting, “You can drink my milkshake!” to him, or mock threatening him with a bowling pin while he is visiting Seattle. Thank you.

But, not necessarily in that order.
