…though, you could argue that his party/hearty Studio 54 lifestyle probably didn’t do Andy Warhol’s health any good, the iconic painter wasn’t much of a drug user (speed in the 60’s) but he didn’t get on the coke/heroin bandwagon like other famed nightlifers of the 80’s, but, he’s definitely a better role model than poor old Kurt Cobain. But, as usual, I digress, when I need to be pointing out that the point of all my drivelish ramblings is that the Seattle Art Museum is hosting one of their quarterly “rave” type, arty, cocktail party events this coming Friday, June 4 starting at 8pm and going until midnight. SAM Remix has been a big hit in its previous events and there’s little reason to doubt that this Friday’s party will be the biggest one yet, as it honor the stars of the two big shows going on at SAM, Kurt Cobain, the subject of Kurt, and Andy Warhol and the show dedicated to his photography and media works, . And some of the fun stuff on tap for the party:
Artist talk and book signing with Roy McMakin (9 pm)
Rare screenings of Andy Warhol’s Fifteen Minutes, shown on MTV in the 1980s (9 pm and 11 pm)
Variety performances by the effervescent Sylvia O’Stayformore with special guests OtterPop, an exhibitionist aquatic mammal, and Eva Androgyny, Seattle’s premiere androgynous drag queen. (9:30 pm)
“Pop Culture Fashion” runway show presented by the New York Fashion Academy (10:30 pm)
Fascinating tours with members of Seattle’s arts and music communities, Seth Aaron Henderson of Project Runway, and more (every 15 minutes from 8:30 to 11 pm)
Get down with DJ Riz spinning in the Brotman Forum
Muscian Sean Nelson performing live in the galleries
SAMtrax playlist curated by Kevin Cole of KEXP
Factory T-shirt silkscreening
Make your own cover for The Stranger
And much, much more!
SAM Remix events have sold out in the past, so it might be wise to book your tickets NOW! If you don’t, then you won’t get that chance to party with Rollerena and Bianca and Halston and Liza and the rest of the gang…
