On Saturday, August 28, 2010, gays and lesbians and their friends from throughout the area will descend on Wild Waves, the theme and water park in Federal Way, for a day of thrill rides and water slides. While it will be business as usual for the popular park we have negotiated a special group ticket price ($20.99) for that day with no limit on the number of tickets that can be sold at that rate. Seattle Gay Scene has teamed up with the Snohomish County Gay Social Club. Read our first announcement here.
This past weekend I purchased tickets using the discount and a group of us headed over to give the park a trial spin. My biggest advice is to get there early if you can. The park opens at 10am and the parking lot fills up fast ($10 with in and out privileges). So by printing your tickets from home using the discount you avoid the line of people waiting to buy or pick-up tickets.
The $20.99 ticket is an amazing price with admission at the gate normally $39.99 and tickets online selling for $34.99. With sales tax, our special group rate is only $23.
If you plan on getting a locker you might want to do it early since the line to rent a locker can get pretty long. Also, all the chairs around the wave pool get claimed almost first thing when they open. If you plan on using the tube rides or lazy river renting your own tube for the day is not a bad value at just $8, which includes a $3 deposit you get back upon returning it.
We did a few of the rides first thing and then headed over to the water slides and wave pool. Hanging out in the wave pool all day was, by itself, worth the price of admission. To keep it from getting too crowded, every hour the staff clears everyone out of the wave pool for like 15 minutes. People then head over to the water slides and other places around the park and it actually does keep the wave pool from getting too crowded.
As far as dining goes, the food is not too bad but a 1/3 pound sirloin burger or chicken strips (both served with French fries) will cost around $8 but you get a decent amount of fries with it. In my opinion Bueno Burrito offered the best value at $6 served with chips and salsa.
One of my favorite activities late in the day was just to hang out in the shade of the Beer Garden cabana overlooking the wave pool with the cool breeze during the hot day. They offer Bud and Bud Light on draft along with Barcardi Silver Lemonade, Mohito and Raspberry for $6 plus tax.

Be sure to RSVP for Gay Wild Waves over at our Facebook event.
I noticed Wild Waves charges a $5 transaction fee but you can order as many tickets as you need for just one fee. So the more tickets you order on one transaction the better because you only pay one $5 fee. Another feature is that even though the group day is on August 28, 2010 the tickets can be used any day this summer. So buy all the tickets you will need for the season at one time.
We are passing ALL the savings to you in order to attract the biggest crowd so we hope to see everyone at Wild Waves on August 28th!
