It must be Natasha Lyonne Week in Seattle! Check out “But I’m a Cheerleader” at Central Cinema on Wednesday, July 21!

July 20, 2010• byMichael Strangeways

We just saw her in the Peaches Christ movie “All About Evil” on Saturday, and now Ms Lyonne is back on a Seattle screen for a 7pm presentation of the 1999 cult comedy hit…co-hosted by the fine folks at Three Dollar Cinema. Check it out!

It’s all part of a new monthly collaboration between Central Cinema and Three Dollar Bill that will feature films celebrating the history of queer cinema. And, “But I’m a Cheerleader” is a good film to start with…this fan favorite didn’t earn much respect from traditional critics on its original release but has since become a staple of the Classic Queer Film Canon due to it’s funny, snarky script, vivid production design and witty performances from the cast. The story of a cheerleader mistakenly sent to a gay conversion camp by her conservative family who soon discovers that she IS indeed a lesbian, this satirical romp also stars such iconic Camp actors as Mink Stole, Bud Court and RuPaul. Tickets are $6 in advance and $8 day of show with discounts for Three Dollar Bill members. Check it out!

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
