1) I went to a Midsommer BBQ which had to be postponed from REAL mid-summer for a variety reasons that included the fact that it was TOO cold to actually have a Midsommer BBQ at night…It was a very enjoyable evening in the CD with a crowd that was largely SIFF related (Seattle International Film Festival). The food was delicious, the company was delightful and I had many lovely conversations including a nice chat with Three Dollar Bill Cinema’s Jason Plourde about the upcoming Seattle Gay and Lesbian Film Festival which opens October 15. Jason told me about a few of the movies scheduled to play but I’m NOT allowed to spill any beans until the official announcement which will be around September 15…one thing he did tell me is that the Festival is celebrating their 15th anniversary and Wolfe Video is turning 25 this year so they are teaming up for a special event. The Festival will screen a beloved classic from the Wolfe Video library and Three Dollar Bill fans get to PICK the movie that will be shown during the Festival. Go to the website to vote; the choices include Big Eden, The Gymnast, Brother to Brother, Finding North, Goldfish Memory, Everything Relative and By Hook or By Crook. So far, Big Eden is leading by a HUGE margin so if you’re fan of one of the OTHER films, you’d better start voting…
2) I also caught a cold that night…smoking cigarettes (yes, I’m bad…) in the coolish night air around a bonfire is a DUMDUM THING to do and I’m paying the price for my stupidity…I feel like crap right now. Summer colds are NOT fun when it’s this hot. For one thing, who wants to drink hot lemony tea when it’s 90 degrees outside?
3) I wasn’t very symptomatic on Sunday (sore throatish and in denial about it) and I went to a SeaFukIt bbq hosted at a very lovely home in West Seattle. If you’re not aware, SeaFukIt is a new safe sex advocacy group, modeled after the original in DC, that uses STRONG graphic imagery to reach out to the many, many sexually active gay men who are NOT practicing safe sex. Please check out the website, but remember that it is NOT SAFE FOR WORK or for the prudish! The bbq event was designed as a team bonding social event for the volunteers involved with the group (yes, I am volunteering my time and “talents” to this fine organization) and it was a lot of fun, (but not “naughty” fun, if that was what you were thinking…though one guest did strip down to his American Apparel briefs, but, it WAS very hot outside…). A couple of the guests (one of whom’s name rhymes with Jaleska Janilla) very kindly brought a very special cake to the party and reported that the very sweet older lady at the QFC bakery counter didn’t have a problem with creating a “FukIt” cake…Bless her little heart. Oh, and SeaFukIt has all sorts of interesting plans for the future…we’ve already started distributing condom kits and they’ll be some very exciting events happening in the future…tongues WILL be wagging!
That’s all I got for you…I’m spent and sick and ready for a siesta…
