Last Dance of the Day: Black Swan starring Natalie Portman is a ballet film to die for…

September 2, 2010• bySeattle Gay Scene

Have you heard about this movie? It just opened at the Venice Film Festival (opens in the US December 1st) and it’s getting some rave reviews. Fox Searchlight’s Black Swan is a ballet film/psychological thriller about a young, rising ballet star played by Natalie Portman who faces some stiff competition when another young talented dancer played by “That 70’s Show” actress Mila Kunis joins the company. Things get nasty, violent and reportedly, a bit lesbionic as well…Zexy! Not to mention the film co-stars Barbara Hershey as Portman’s nasty mom and Winona Ryder as an aging ballerina who’s not very happy about losing her status as a “prima”. Sparks are gonna fly, obviously…And, oddly enough, the film is directed by Darren Aronofsky, the award winning filmmaker best known for his gritty films, “Requiem for a Dream” and the Mickey Rourke starrer, “The Wrestler”. The world of ballet seems to be a strange place for Aronofsky to visit but watching the trailer, it looks like he manages to make that world seem as freaky and dark as a seedy wrestling ring in a back-alley gym. The film looks like a cross between “The Turning Point”, “Showgirls” and “Single White Female”; I say, Bring It On! Can’t wait for this one to pop up on local movie screens in December…it will help to cut the treacle from the rest of the big studio line-up of singing chipmunks and animated cartoon dogs…

Also, the poster is amazingly hot…
