What a busy gal! Ana Matronic is in town today for her Scissor Sister’s gig at the Showbox SoDo tonight but she’s also apparently squeezing in a personal appearance at a comic book store in the U-District?!?! What’s that all about?
Well, the poo is, the effervescent sexy chanteuse (and former performer at Trannyshack in San Francisco before she hit it big with the Sisters…) has written an installment of the hot new comic book series about the famed NCY nightclub, CBGB. Apparently, she’s a big ole comic book fan girl! In this fascinating interview with the website, ComicBookMovie.com, she reveals why she wrote the comicbook:
First and foremost, because I love comics. They are such an amazing way to tell a story. They are, in essence, the storyboards for a movie, but without the limitations inherent in moviemaking. There’s no budgetary constraints, no set to build and light, no producer breathing down your neck, no actor personalities to juggle – just you and your imagination, and hopefully an amazing artist to bring it to life. I have a few stories that started out as scripts and screenplays, and they grew in such a way that to actually put them into production would cost a pretty penny, so comics are the best and most natural medium to realize them in. But at the end of the day I’m a huge geek and I’m so excited to be a published comic author.
Even more reason to love this woman! She’s a NERD, like the rest of us!
Published by Boom! Studios, the 4 part series is set during the heyday of the club’s scene in the 1970’s. Ms Matronic contributed a story to the second issue of the series and she’s happy to sign IT, or anything else you might bring, at her in-store appearance at The Dreaming Comics and Games Shop at 5226 University Way NE in the U-District. She’ll be in the store between 1 and 3pm before high tailing it to the Showbox SoDo for tonight’s Scissor Sisters show…who wouldn’t want to miss an opportunity to experience the divine Ms Matronic in person…and surrounded by Yoda dolls, Battlestar Galactica collectible action figures and 67 clueless D&D fans with Mountain Dew stains on their LOTR t-shirts to boot? Sounds like a hoot!
