We’ve been watching this unfold since 2005 – “Waity Katie” as the Brit press have dubbed her, and the dashing Prince William (who won the genetic crapshoot that was the mixing of HRH Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana), have been seen together, been romantically linked, have broken up, and gotten back together… and will be marrying in 2011. Probably. We’re pretty sure, anyway. They were talking about 2012, but that’s when they Olympics will be in London, and they can’t have two events of that scale in the same year. That would be awfully ostentatious, and that is simply not the British way of doing things.
Fun with genetics – Will had a 50/50 chance at hotness, and I think he won
But nothing is official in Royal courtship until Kate meets his granny and gets her own government appointed security detail – and apparently she has. These new (and more certain) stories about Britain’s Prince William finally marrying fashionista, and aspiring photographer Kate Middleton have emerged at the same time as stories about his “determination” to serve a tour of duty in Afghanistan like his brother Harry.
Previously, William had been prevented from serving because of his position in the line of Royal Succession – presently, he is second in line to the throne of the UK and 16 commonwealth realms, behind his father, Prince Charles, the current heir apparent. Since his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II seems to enjoy robust health at the age of 84 (whose own mother lived to be 101), it may be many years before William is faced with having to take on the duties of the monarch.
Captain Mark Phillips was hot back in the day!
