Apologies for the tardy announcement. I was crazy busy today working on the layout for the new SGS site, (Oops! That is supposed to be Top Secret!) and catching up on “Project Runway”, (I’m a good multi-tasker), then bopping down to catch the sneak peak look at the “Picasso” show at SAM, then zipping over to On the Boards to check out the Christian Rizzo show. Yes, I am very, very tired right now, but I need to end your suspense and declare a winner in our Joey Arias/Strange Fruit ticket giveaway. I’ll repeat the trivia question:
Joey Arias first gained attention in the alternative arts scene in New York in the late 70’s and early 80’s with collaborations with a number of talented and unusual artists including David Bowie and the whole 80’s club scene but got a lot of attention for his work with a noted German performance artist who has a cult following to this day. Joey Arias is in fact, the executor of this artist’s estate and continues to honor him with yearly festivals in his honor. Name this highly unusual and influential German performance artist who was one of the first celebrity casualties of AIDS.
Of course the answer is: Klaus Nomi, the iconic/ironic German singer and performance artist. And congratulations to Michael L. for being the first to respond with the correct answer! Michael and a guest are going to Joey Arias in “Strange Fruit” next Tuesday, October 12 at The Triple Door! Have a fun Holiday as Joey channels the divine Lady Day!
