Theater hipsters all know and adore the beloved local actor Troy Mink and more specifically, his justifiably famous alter ego, “Carlotta Sue Philpott”, the dotty Southern grandma who hosts various variety shows she likes to call “Wingdings”. Sadly, Mr Mink has been battling kidney disease for many, many years and he recently lost his job and his medical coverage and needs a little help. The lovely, lovely folks at Annex Theatre are helping their brother thespian out by hosting a fundraiser in his honor to raise money for his medical and legal bills. Here’s the info:
Time: Monday, November 22 · 7:00pm – 10:00pm
Location: Annex Theatre
at the corner of 11th & E Pike St. in Capitol Hill
Seattle, WAWHAT’S THIS ABOUT: 5 years ago the life of Troy Mink — improvisational
maestro and the creator/embodier of Carlotta Sue Philpott, a conservative
Southern housewife/talk show hostess with a motley gang of friends — was
saved with a kidney transplant. At the time, he had a job with health
insurance, insurance which went away when he was laid off. Due to mounting
debt (because getting a transplant is hardly the end of your medical
concerns),Troy has to declare bankruptcy…but before he can do that, he has
to raise $1,600 to pay his bankruptcy lawyer. This awful, absurd,
embarrassing circumstance has led his friends to hold a benefit for Troy:
BLUSHING KIDNEYS!WHO’S INVOLVED: Produced by Rick Miller and Bret Fetzer, BLUSHING KIDNEYS is
a festival of embarrassment, with theatrical/musical powerhouse Sarah
Rudinoff; members of the dizzying prog-folk band “Awesome” (David Nixon,
John Osebold, Kirk Anderson, John Ackermann, Evan Mosher, Basil Harris, Rob
Witmer) performing individually; drummer Alan Etchison; and more musicians
singing songs that any person of taste would only sing in the shower or
their car while stuck in traffic. Add to this embarrassment of musical
riches the storytelling talents of Matt Smith, the tawdry shadow-puppetry of
Sgt. Rigsby & His Amazing Silhouettes, the spontaneous painting of
ChromaMatic, and Troy Mink himself, and you have an evening that will make
you blush with pleasure.Donations to the cause will be taken at the door, and there will be
opportunities over the course of the evening to buy, bid, and otherwise
contribute to Troy’s legal fund.*********************************************************
Can’t make it to this event, but feel like helping out anyway? Make a donation through troymink.com !Special thanks to Annex Theatre for donating their performance space for
this evening.
It’s a great cause for a brilliant actor. A must do event.
