Feel the need to “wiz” this weekend? Then head to the Rainier Valley Cultural Center (3515 S Alaska St) for “The Wiz: A Queer and POC (People of Color) Burlesque Tribute” being produced by local burlesque sensation Miz Ginger Snapz and hosted by local dragalicious sensation Aleksa Manila. The delightful Miz Snapz and her Oh Snapz! Productions are “committed to creating art and entertainment which values the contributions of all performers regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, age, or body size AND we put on a damn good show!” AND, they are promising it’s going to be just like the acclaimed musical, The Wiz, but, “with more titties and drag!” Some of those “titties and drag” will be provided by: Adraboo, Jacqueline Hyde, Cherry Tart, Pigeon Von Tramp, Lili Delight, Femnomena, Devo, Diva la Deviant, and Miz Ginger Snapz herself. Miz Snapz put on a similar show last year, but promises ALL new acts and entertainment for the 2010 edition. It should be an amazing show and it HAS to be better than the odd film version of The Wiz with the tragically miscast Diana Ross as a 40 year old Dorothy and 37 miles of gold Congoleum posing as the Yellow Brick Road. That movie had its moments, but it WAS bizarre!
It’s happening this Saturday and the doors open at 7:30pm/show at 8pm and the tickets are $15/advance and $20/Door. Sorry kids: it’s a 21+ event! Get your tickets HERE!
