Europeans aren’t quite as liberal as you think. A new commercial in Italy has stirred some controversy for the Renault auto company. It features a comely blond female and a comely brunette female hooking up at a party, sneaking off to a bedroom and engaging in a little lady loving fun before the blond steals the brunette’s car keys and makes off with her crappy lavender colored Renault Twingo, (is that some filthy Italian word for an orgasm?) Whatevs; the car is tiny, and cheap, and evidently being marketed to thievin’ lesbians not smart enough to steal a better car. It has conservative types upset, as well as the Italian LGBTQ community. Italian television networks RAI and Mediaset, which are owned by skeevy, right wing Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi are refusing to run the ad, but it does appear on the satellite network, Sky. The ad agency behind the commercial defend it:
“We wanted to create an advert that was original, enjoyable and at the same time not vulgar, and I believe we have achieved that,” Daniele Tranchini of the Milan-based Publicis is quoted by the Telegraph as saying.
Here’s the ad in question.
What do you think? Seems pretty tame to me, except for the whole “thievin’ lesbians” aspects of it. Also: that is one ugly, cheap-ass car…
