Oops! She did it again. Yesterday’s online release of Spears’ ‘Hold It Against Me’, the lead single off of her new untitled album, marked the Queen of Pop’s battle to reclaim her throne. If this single is an indication of things to come, the Britney is back in a huge way. If there was ever any doubt that Spears could once again top the charts, then those critics have been silenced. ‘Hold It Against Me’ has topped the iTunes charts just hours after being released this morning.
Every second of ‘Hold It Against Me’ screams instant classic. A frenzied euro-pop production, the single evokes everything that Spears’ fans have come to know and love about her: sexually tinted lyrics, breathy vocals and a mid-song dance break that will allow Spears to prove if she can still dance like the Britney of yesteryear. The funky and innovative beat, coupled with Spears’ classic vocal nuances, undoubtedly make this one of the best singles that she has ever released. More than anything else, this song seems like a perfect fit for the clubs, which will of course give Britney every bit of the exposure that she deserves.
Britney may not be the best vocalist of her generation (I still say that title belongs to Christina Aguilera), but Spears is a lot smarter than people give her credit for. She has clearly surrounded herself with a team destined to produce hit after hit for her. The track is produced within an inch of its life, but for Britney, the high levels of production work to her benefit. The result is an instant hit that was born for mass exposure and repeat plays.
The positive reception seems genuinely appreciated by Spears, who tweeted her excitement this morning. “Seriously, I have the best fans ever! I love you all so much!! Everything I do is for you! xoxo Brit,” she said.
Only time will tell how well this single performs, but it looks likely that it will debut atop the Billboard charts. Spears is back and bigger than ever. With rumors circulating that Spears will be performing at the Grammy’s on Feb 20th, coupled with this hot new single, Spears will soon hopefully be able to silence any and all critics. What do you think of ‘Hold it Against Me’?
