“Drag U” presents the first promo for Season 2.

April 12, 2011• bySeattle Gay Scene

Yeah, RuPaul’s Drag U isn’t quite as much fun as Drag Race, but it’s still an enjoyable summer diversion. The Drag Race spin-off which began last year summer, features former Drag Race contestants giving drag make-overs to frumpy, sad biological women under the careful eye of RuPaul and Dean of Drag, the Lady Bunny. It returns this summer for Season Two, (June 20, just in time for Pride) and Logo ran a teaser for it during the NewNowNext Awards. Can you figure out who some of the instructors are, by watching the video? I’m pretty sure Pandora Boxx is in there somewhere…

And, what about the NewNowNext Awards? It was kind of fun, with very little production values and had some nice campy energy but it was all a bit…silly. I think part of the problem was the stupid categories they had…”Most Anticipated Movie”? How stupid and an obvious attempt to get ads from movie studios and/or plug upcoming Paramount films, (Paramount owns MTV/Logo). And, how the frack did that boring bimbo Carmen Carrera get a nomination for “Most Addictive Reality Star” (fortunately she didn’t win) over far more entertaining, interesting and popular fellow contestants like Manila, Shangela or Raja? Did the Mob have something to do with it?

But, James Van Der Beek was cute, though it was annoying that he had to make a point during the show to make sure we all knew he was a married hetero with child….the standard, “Hey, I love the geighs but please remember I’m not one!” moment.
