In yesterday’s Movies Column I described the women-being-funny controversy in the new film Bridesmaids. I then listed a number of women who are undeniably hilarious. Jennifer Connelly does not deserve to be on this list. That was my mistake.
It was Jennifer Coolidge, lovable ditz from Best In Show and American Pie that I meant to say. I apologize for the error.
I also failed to include in the list Sandra Bernhard, Amy Sedaris, Jeanine Garofalo, Mary Tyler Moore, Cloris Leachman, Wanda Sykes, Rosalind Russell, Carol Channing, Carole Lombard, Lucille Ball, and the entire cast of The Golden Girls. The list truly goes on and on, yet for some reason Hollywood still insists that women can’t be funny.
