The Beebo Brinker Pulp Cabaret project has been a labor of love for burlesque diva Cherry Manhattan and Phase 2 of the project kicks off tonight, Thursday, August 25 at A Contempory Theatre’s Bullitt Cabaret for the first night of a three show run, all starting at 7:30pm. (Tickets available here.) The project began earlier this year with monthly stagings of the cabaret at Re-bar and will conclude next month, also at Re-bar, with a fully staged production of “The Beebo Brinker Chronicles” running from September 15 through October 9.
Based on the beloved pulp fiction novels of Ann Bannon written between 1957 and 1962, the five novel series focuses on the lusty adventures of some very zexy lesbians in love living in The Big Apple during the “Mad Men” era.
Inspired by these stories, this seriously sexy cabaret will immerse audiences in an erotic 1950’s Greenwich Village underground gay-bar rife with pin-ups, intelligent burlesque, live music and an interactive cast. With a retro fashion show, live band, classic film clips from the fifties, and a titillating medley of song, burlesque, theatre and music, this cabaret offers devilishly dirty entertainment for gay and straight audiences alike … and everything in between!
Performances feature Lily Verlaine, Fuchsia FoXXX, Polly Wood, Jesse Belle-Jones, Lady TaTas, EmperROAR Fabulous, Daddy-O, Angel Alabaster, Lyla la Coeur, Cherry Manhattan, and Rhonda J. Soikowski as Beebo Brinker. Hosted by Diva le Deviant. Music by the Cooper Smith Quartet.
That’s an impressive cast of talent…as an added bonus, author Ann Bannon will be in attendance for Saturday night’s performance and an after show reception, at no extra charge for Saturday night ticket holders.
Seductive, curvy ladies in gorgeous clothes singing and dancing…fun for the entire queer family!
(But, the show is NOT recommended for audience members under 18…it IS a bit naughty boots!)
