Four of the biggest names in 20th century popular music history reunite on stage this week at The Paramount as the hit Broadway musical, “Million Dollar Quartet” returns home to the Puget Sound where it all began. The Tony Award winning show began at the Village Theatre in Issaquah before conquering New York, London and the rest of the world. Based on the true events surrounding the recording session where Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins jammed together for the only time, “Million Dollar Quartet” features ten million dollars worth of popular music including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Fever,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Who Do You Love?,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Matchbox,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “ Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Hound Dog,” and more.
On December 4, 1956, an auspicious twist of fate brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley together. The place was Sun Records’ storefront studio in Memphis. The man who made it happen was Sam Phillips, the “Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” who discovered them all. The four young musicians united for the only time in their careers for an impromptu recording that has come to be known as one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll jam sessions of all time.
“Million Dollar Quartet” opens Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at The Paramount Theatre for a 6 day run.
