If you’re under 30, she may only be a apocryphal figure that you might have only heard about. But if you grew up in the 70’s and 80’s, she was a staple of game shows, and made cameo appearances on popular TV shows, usually appearing as herself to dispense sage and logical advice, usually as a deus ex machina type character to offset the emotional action of the show. When the AIDS crisis exploded in the early 1980’s and homosexuals were vilified for being everything from simple pervs to psychopaths, Dr. Joyce Brothers was one of the early celebrity voices of reason again such homophobia. She was something of a better version of Dr. Phil.
Dr. Joyce Brothers, passed away today. She was 85.
