Our Lovely Friends at Three Dollar Bill Cinema have teamed up with HBO to present a FREE sneak peek look at the new gay themed series LOOKING this Thursday, January 16, 2014 at AMC Pacific Place Cinemas at 8pm. The sad news: the screening is “Sold Out” but there WILL be a “Hope Line” for those wanting to get in to the screening…they’ll seat everyone WITH tickets then count empty seats and release them to those in line. And, we know there’ll be at least TWO empty seats because Mr. Strangeways booked his tickets but now can’t go to this event…and, there will be MORE available because there will be more no shows. Especially with free events, people commit then don’t show. Our advice: get there EARLY to stand in the Hope Line…by 7:15pm or so, if you really want to check out this eagerly awaited new show.
And, LOOKING is eagerly awaited. Not only is it an HBO production, but it has a terrific pedigree of talent behind it.
LOOKING stars Jonathan Groff (Glee, C.O.G.), Murray Bartlett (AUGUST), and Frankie J. Alvarez (Smash) as three close friends living — and loving — in modern-day San Francisco. Directed by Andrew Haigh (writer/director of the critically-lauded WEEKEND), the trio’s stories intertwine and unspool dramatically as they search for happiness and intimacy in an age of unparalleled choices. Rounding out the ‘Looking’ world are a bevy of dynamic gay men played by Russell Tovey, Scott Bakula, Raul Castillo, and O.T. Fagbenle as well as a wide-range of supporting characters including the fabulous Lauren Weedman!
LOOKING was created by Michael Lannan and is executive produced by Sarah Condon and Andrew Haigh.
We’ve been lucky enough to interview several of the people involved in LOOKING including Andrew Haigh, when he was in Seattle to promote his highly acclaimed film WEEKEND, and the ridiculously talented and charismatic Murray Bartlett. Jonathan Groff is adorable and Russell Tovey is the best thing to come out of the UK since fish and chips. We’re excited to see a show about modern gay men’s lives…even if all the gay men in question are improbably gorgeous. (We’re just hoping the show isn’t too soapy, like the ridiculous American version of QUEER AS FOLK or too talky/moody/mumblecore-y/hipster than thou-y…)
If you don’t fancy standing in line to see a tv show, then mark your calendars for Three Dollar Bill’s next two events: its annual Oscar Party on Sunday, March 2, 2014 and their big annual fundraiser/auction/gala, SOUTH PACIFIC on Friday, April 4 at MOHAI.
