Today’s also a Big Day for Miss Jinkx Monsoon…not only is she in Los Angeles filming the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6 final episode and her “de-crowning” but her new album is now available at Amazon.com and iTunes! AND, as of this original posting, it’s the #1 Selling Album in the Broadway category on Amazon.com!
Yes, at midnight this morning, THE INEVITABLE ALBUM went live to the world for purchase…and, it’s not your standard drag queen, “I was on Drag Race so I’m releasing a shitty, auto-tuned disco album” piece of caca. It’s a REAL album with a delicious combo of some old standards PLUS brand new songs written by Jinkx’s “Vaudevillians” partner, Major Scales aka Richard Andriessen. Here’s some more blarney from the press release:
Inspired by Bette Midler’s The Divine Miss M, The Inevitable Album features Fred Schneider of the B-52’s who wrote one of the original songs for the album, who Jinkx and album collaborator Major Scales both refer to as “a personal hero.” “The album also has many send ups to my favorite influences,” notes Jinkx, name-checking Billie Holiday, Patsy Cline, Marlene Dietrich, Cole Porter, burlesque and cabaret performance, and of course vodka on the rocks. “We concocted an album that is a cohesive mixture of classic and contemporary.”
We got to hear a rough cut of the album earlier this year and it’s just HIGHLY entertaining and a must purchase album for both Jinkx fans and for those who appreciate terrific cabaret music. And, hat’s off to Mr. Andriessen for crafting amazing new songs that SOUND like they could be old, pop standards but he writes music and lyrics to sound fresh and modern. The first single, “Coffee and Cigarettes” was adorable, but there are also great songs collaborated on with Fred Schneider of The B-52’s plus some cleverly changed up versions of some beloved Sondheim classics. (And, for those of you wanting the CD, that’s on its way, too!)
NYC based fans of the Monsoon (and Major Scales) can celebrate the debut of the Inevitable Album with…The Inevitable Concert which will happen this weekend, May 8 – 11 at The Laurie Beechman Theatre. The Saturday night show is sold out so HURRY to grab those seats for other nights! Jinkx will perform with a full band and MAYBE some surprise guests…DO IT!
As for the rest of the world, Jinkx is all over the place for the next month before she and Major Scales settle into their summer long gig in Provincetown at The Art House. The Vaudevillians will pop up in San Francisco on June 6 & 7 at The Verdi Club (tix HERE!) and Jinkx will pop into LA for their Pride on June 8 for the LOGO TV Pride Party…grab those tix HERE (they’re selling FAST!!!)
Seattle fans will have to wait until October for a long fix of Jinkxy when The Vaudevillians will settle into Seattle Repertory Theatre for a month long run of their show.
She’s also busy filming pieces for the feature length version of DRAG BECOMES HIM.
In her free time, the Wonder Girl knits sweaters for soldiers and works on a cure for narcolepsy.
