Rainbow City Performing Arts Celebrates The Cinema In Spring Concert, “Camera”

Rainbow City Performing Arts, the parent of the Rainbow City Orchetra and Rainbow City Band is delighted to announce their spring concert…CAMERA, the 2nd installment in their ongoing “Lights, Camera, Action!” season which began last fall with “Lights”. (We’re surmising that the next concert will be “Action” but…we also like to be surprised…)

The Rainbow musicians will be returning to Benaroya Hall in downtown Seattle for a 2pm concert on Sunday, March 9th. Camera will showcase some of our favorite pieces of music from many beloved films including pieces from Studio Ghibli animated classics like Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle plus works from sci-fi legendary films like Star Trek and 2001: A Space Odyssey. The concert’s goal is to celebrate the “intersection of cinematic music and LGBTQIA+ storytelling” by using the movie music we’ve cherished over the decades.

From the press release:

The concert weaves together Beethoven’s stirring Symphony No. 7, Strauss’s majestic “Also sprach Zarathustra,” and other powerful works that illuminate the stories of LGBTQIA+ heroes and advocates.

“With all our community is experiencing right now, it was important to present music that feels familiar and comforting,” said Damien Hall, Executive Director of Rainbow City. “You’ll definitely recognize some of these tunes, but you’ll also hear something new and exciting to inspire you.” In their second year performing at Benaroya hall, Rainbow City continues to welcome new audiences to the magnificent Taper Auditorium. Damien continued, “After every performance we hear from folks who have never attended a symphonic concert before and find out how much they enjoyed our show. The sense of joy in the room is palpable!”

This performance includes over 160 community musicians who bring their passion and spirit to the stage. Rainbow City Performing Arts, a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing equity and visibility of LGBTQIA+ individuals, continues its mission of highlighting diverse voices and composers. Both Rainbow City Orchestra and Rainbow City Concert Band will unite on stage to present this dynamic program that bridges classical masterworks with contemporary film scores.
