Queer Scary Movies To Love: “Queens of the Dead”

October 19, 2025• byMichael Strangeways

Here’s a fun queer horror comedy to check out starting Friday…though, you’ll only have ONE option IN Seattle to see it. (And, a couple more if you live south, or north of the city or are willing to schlep to the ‘burbs…) QUEENS OF THE DEAD is a fun new movie opening this week and it involves LGBTQ+ club kids battling zombies…SQUEEEEEEEEE!!!

The plot:

A zombie apocalypse breaks out in Brooklyn on the night of a giant warehouse party, where an eclectic group of drag queens, club kids, and frenemies must put aside their drama and use their unique skills to fight against the brain-thirsty, scrolling undead.

The movie is directed by Tina Romero and has a slew of stars in it including drag diva Nina West, comedian Margaret Cho and one-time Seattleite Cheyenne Jackson!

In Seattle, you’ll have to wait until October 30th to check it out for ONE screening only at the SIFF Film Center at Seattle Center, presented by the Grand Illusion. Tix at: https://www.siff.net/cinema/in-theaters/queens-of-the-dead

Starting Friday, October 24th, you can check it out for screenings at the Southcenter AMC down in Tukwila or up in Lynnwood at the Lynnwood AMC. Looks like it’s mostly just late night screenings, though…take a nap before you go!

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
