Oh, Alaska!!!! Beloved Drag Diva To Take On “Oh, Mary” National Tour

Fun news: for weeks theater fans have been asking “WHO is going to play Mary Todd Lincoln in the upcoming national tour of the megahit Broadway comedy, OH, MARY?” and we finally have our answer. It’s just been announced that sassy drag queen superstar ALASKA THUNDERFUCK will take on the lead role in “Oh, Mary” from its opening on September 19th in Hartford, CT through the tour’s stop in St.Paul, MN ending on January 17th.

THEN, Tony Award winning star J. HARRISON GHEE takes over as Mary starting in Chicago on January 19, 2027 through the closing night of the tour in West Palm Beach, FL on May 16, 2027. Ghee will also open the tour with Alaska, but they’ll be playing Mary’s Husband for the first half (aka Abraham Lincoln) then switch over to the role of Mary for the second half!

This means Seattle will get Alaska as Mary for the “Oh, Mary” run at Seattle Theatre Group’s Paramount Theatre from November 3rd through November 8, 2026! Tickies at https://www.stgpresents.org/events/oh-mary/

“Oh, Mary”, for those of you living under a cock, er, rock is the huge hit Broadway comedy that won Tony Awards for its star/writer, Oregon native Cole Escola and the show’s director Sam Pinkleton. It became a monstrously popular media darling with packed houses and famous for its rotating list of stars taking on the role including Jinkx Monsoon, Jane Krakowski, Maya Rudolph and Bowen Yank. The show is now on London’s West End, where it was taped for eventual broadcast with original star/writer Cole Escola and is now ready to launch this national tour in large theaters nationwide.

It’ll be interesting to see how the play is received in this huge theaters for the rather middlebrow suburban season ticket holders of “Broadway Across America” type package seasons. Last year, the Tony Award winning “Stereophonic” had to deal with audiences uncomfortable seeing such an intimate show in such massive theaters. Will little, kooky, queer “Mary” do well with the masses used to spending big bucks to see big musical tours? Will a very silly hour and 20 minute long gay bar play wow the “Kevin & Karen” crowd from suburban Bumfuck? Time will tell!! Casting queer entertainment icons like Alaska and J. Harrison Ghee will certainly bring in the LGBTQ crowd eager to see them in this huge hit.
