Back in 1981, Alison Moyet formed the duo Yaz (Yazoo) along with Vince Clarke. Clarke was formerly the Depeche Mode songwriter and now a part of the duo Erasure. It’s no secret that Yaz remains as one of my favorite bands of all time. But just two years later Yaz split up.
In 1983, Moyet began a solo career, releasing her debut album, Alf, the following year. Alf was a major success in Britain, hitting number one on the charts and launching the hit singles “Invisible,” “All Cried Out,” and “Love Resurrection”; it was a minor hit in the U.S., with “Invisible” cracking the Top 40.
Throughout the mid-80’s Moyet had a number of top hits in the U.K. along with some forgettable songs in the mid-90’s. But after 14 years she has returned to the stage displaying that unforgettable voice that coined such Yaz hits as “Only You” and “Don’t Go“.
This performance will not only show Moyet performing selections from her new album The Turn, but also pull from her vast catalogue including Alf (1984), Hoodoo (1991), Hometime (2002) and Voice (2004) but may even feature material from Raindancing (1987).
Alison Moyet performs Wednesday, October 29, 2008, 7 pm at The Moore Theatre. Tickets are just $35 (not including fees). For more info visit www.TheMoore.com and avoid a service charge by purchasing your tickets at The Moore Theatre box office.
