Sean Penn picked up the Best Actor award for his performance in the movie Milk at Sunday’s 81st Academy Awards. Penn’s win surprised many who thought Mickey Rourke would win that award for his movie The Wrestler. Milk was nominated for 8 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, but the film only won Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay. The Best Picture ended up going to Slumdog Millionaire.
During his acceptance speech Penn had some sharp words concerning Prop 8.
“I think it is a good time for those who voted for the ban against gay marriage to sit and reflect and anticipate their great shame and the shame in their grandchildren’s eyes if they continue that way,” Penn said.
“We’ve got to have equal rights for everyone.”
